In Minnesota alone, nearly 295,000 white residents live in poverty. These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people, families, and communities grappling with the challenges of making ends meet.


Addressing the Historical Impact

The effects of U.S. colonialism and slavery have created deep-seated economic and social structures that continue to influence the distribution of wealth and opportunities. While these historical events have disproportionately affected minority communities, we must also acknowledge the existence of poverty among white Americans. This poverty is not always visible in public discourse, yet it is felt in the quiet struggles of many citizens.

White Americans constitute the largest share of those receiving food stamps (36%) and Medicaid (43%). These programs are lifelines for many, yet they also highlight the need for more sustainable solutions to lift people out of poverty.
